Community Focus. World Impact.

At Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, we’re dedicated to serving the community that created us. Not only do we educate the next generation of exceptional medical and healthcare professionals, we provide outstanding patient care for the residents of our region. And we conduct research to improve healthcare outcomes for our local community and communities the world over.

Through our Community-Engaged Learning initiatives — such as Virginia’s first student-run, free medical clinic — Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University students learn to put their compassion for patients and their families into action. They develop a clear sense of the community’s needs and their responsibilities for meeting them. Working with their peers in other disciplines, they also gain experience in interdisciplinary problem-solving.

From those we train to those we serve — inclusion is at the core of our community.

Community is an integral part of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. We work alongside partners to enhance health equity in the Hampton Roads community while strengthening the clinical workforce pipeline, local economy, and capacity for research innovation.
